Seventh Grade Curriculum

Bible
The primary goal of this study is to make the Word of God more meaningful and have life-changing impact on the lives of students. Students will draw knowledge, wisdom, and understanding for themselves from scripture. Each lesson includes life application sections to help students learn specific applications of Biblical truths.

English
Two English courses are available to seventh-grade students: grade level and honors. Placement is based on multiple criteria: English grades, standardized test scores, and teacher recommendation.

Literature
The study of literature allows us to view people, places and situations from a perspective different than our own. Historical figures become real through biographies, oral histories, and journals. Imaginative fiction allows students to discover places like medieval Europe while learning to identify the elements of fiction: plot, setting, characterization, theme, style, and point of view. Poetry provides fresh images of people, places and emotions. Students will recognize and analyze the literary genres of essay, short story, poetry, fiction, non-fiction, novels and drama. As students evaluate works of literature from a Christian viewpoint, they further develop critical thinking, writing, and speaking skills.

Language Arts
One of the greatest evidences that we are God’s special creation, made in His image, is the complex capacity that we have with words. The power and potential of language has never been more obvious than in this technological age of communication. The study of the English language is rooted in the need to communicate plainly. Whether sending an email, giving a speech, writing an essay, or reading the newspaper, we are using words as tools to understand meanings. Students will increase skills necessary for giving and receiving messages in oral and written form.

Mathematics
Two mathematics courses are available to seventh-grade students. Placement is based on multiple criteria: current math grades, standardized test scores, and teacher recommendation.

Seventh Grade Math
Students will master addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using whole numbers, decimals, fractions and rational numbers. Instruction in equations, geometry, ratios, percents, graphing, probability, and measurement will also be completed in this school year.

Pre-algebra
Students will master addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using whole numbers, decimals, fractions and rational numbers. Equations, inequalities, functions, geometry, ratios, percents, graphing, statistics, probability, and polynomials will also be explained.

Science
This course leads students in the discovery of the living world around them from a Christian perspective. Students are actively involved in studying the five kingdoms of organisms and the make-up of all living things. Exploring God’s great creation generates excitement as students make hands-on discoveries through laboratory investigations of the life around them.

Social Studies
The students will continue their exploration of the history, geography and culture of the world from sixth grade. The seventh grade focus is on Europe and the Americas. Moreover, the students will gain a greater understanding about the world and the people who occupy its land. Some of the curriculum highlights include: Ancient Greece, Ancient Rome, Renaissance, Reformation, and current history. Lastly, the students will be engaged in critical discussions and debates.
