Fourth Grade
Of all the primary years, fourth grade is that transitional year where there is a distinct shift in the way students are expected to learn. Whereas the earlier grades focus on the learning of the basic fundamentals, fourth grade is where we switch modes from learning to read to reading to learn and application. With this in mind, the fourth grade curriculum is designed to help students develop the necessary skills to adapt to this change and become successful learners. We focus on developing organization and study skills that help them become more independent learners. Along with this, we hone in on the necessary reading skills that help students to become fluent readers who are able to navigate through a piece of text and answer questions with well-developed answers using that text as support. And all of this happens within a loving and nurturing environment where God is central, and the spiritual development of each child is key.
Fourth grade students at The First Academy are interacting with several different subject areas throughout each day. Areas of study include Bible (stewardship focus), English (sentence classification and grammar), Writing (5 paragraph narrative story), Reading Comprehension Skills, Vocabulary Development, Poetry, History (Florida history, government, economics, geography skills), Science (Life, Earth, and Physical), and Mathematics (multiplication / division, fractions, numeration, geometry, and decimals).
