Upper School Students are required to have an Apple iPad for use in the classroom. Students have the option of bringing their own iPad or borrowing an iPad from TFA. Below are the iPad FAQs.
Q: Why the iPad?
A: While there are many different devices we could have selected, the iPad gave us the best mix of stability, support, battery life, portability and app/software selection.
Q: Who will pay for and own the iPads?
A: TFA will purchase the iPads and they will be the property of the school.
Q: My student already has an iPad. Can he/she use that one?
A: Yes, if your student opts to bring his/her own iPad - the family will receive an annual tuition credit.
Q: May students opt out of using the iPad?
A: One of our goals in providing every student with an iPad is to make the classroom experience as consistent as possible for both the faculty and students. The iPad will be a required item much like a textbook or pen and paper.
Q: When will students receive their iPads?
A: Students will receive their iPads the first week of school.
Q: Will the school offer any kind of iPad training for parents and students?
A: Yes! While we recognize that many students will already be very familiar with Apple's mobile devices, we will seek to offer training in the area of expectations for use and care, as well as how to go about getting support in case of an issue.
Q: Will students be allowed to install their own apps, music and content?
A: Yes! Students will sync their device with their own iTunes account and will be able to install their own content. Content must coincide with the honor code and other policies listed in the TFA handbook.
Q: Will students be able to keep their iPads over the summer?
A: Right now the plan is to allow students to keep their devices over the summer. However, TFA reserves the right to recall the devices at any time.
Q: What happens if an iPad gets broken, lost or stolen?
A: Each student receiving an iPad will be required to have a signed accidental damage waiver form from their parents. This waiver will give parents the option to either purchase annual accidental damage coverage or cover any damages themselves.
